MONROVIA- The Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), led by its Managing Director, Hon. Mouhammed Ali has embarked on a two-week feasibility study tour in South Eastern Liberia. An initiative aims to assess the potential for expanding piped water services to key cities in the region, specifically Zwedru, Pleebo, and Greenville.

The LWSC in a release on Wednesday, emphasized the objectives of the feasibility study to identify suitable locations for the construction of a pipe network, evaluate sites for groundwater systems and water purification facilities, and conduct thorough analyses to ensure the safety and availability of water in the selected areas.
Managing Director Ali and team, inclusive of Deputy Managing Director for Technical Services Hon. Patrick Sandikie, and others will also assess local communities for the installation of public kiosks as well as identify public structures in need of water connectivity.
As part of its ambitious plan, LWSC aims to rehabilitate, construct, and modernize water facilities across all fifteen counties in Liberia by the end of 2029. This effort follows significant degradation of water infrastructure that occurred during the Liberian civil war, particularly in Zwedru and Greenville, which previously had functioning piped water systems.
The feasibility tour has on one hand sparked hope and optimism among residents in the cities of Greenville and Zwedru for the restoration of piped water services while on the other hand Pleebo residents are hopeful about gaining access to piped water for the first time in Liberia’s history.
The LWSC’s South Eastern feasibility tour reflects the corporation’s commitment to enhancing water accessibility and quality across Liberia. By analyzing existing conditions and exploring opportunities for infrastructure development, the Corporation is taking essential steps toward achieving its operational objectives and improving the quality of life for communities in south eastern Liberia.
IWPG, Hosts 2025 International Branch Annual General Meeting
The International Women’s Peace Group IWPG, Chairwoman Hyun Sook Yoon, hosted the 2025 International Branch Annual General Meeting at Daegu Joongang Convention Center on January 21, 2025.
The event congratulated the achievements of 2024 and presented IWPG’s vision and roadmap for 2025, bringing together 110 IWPG member branches from Korea and abroad.
Approximately 600 IWPG members, staff, advisors, Publicity Ambassadors, and Peace Committees participated in the event both offline and online. Awards were also given to the best Korean and overseas branches in each sector.
New member recruited includes, (Cheonan, Mongolia); Peace Committee establishment (Jeongeup, Mongolia); PLTE (Peace Lecturer Training Education) (Colombia); media coverage (Yeosu, Indonesia); MOU/A signing (East Busan, Mongolia); Peace Monument establishment (Philippines); CMS membership (Geojae); and growth in staff (Gimhae, Uganda).
At the event, there was an introduction of new Branch managers in 2024 and a case presentation from some of the most active Branches.
Global Region Nine if the institution was awarded as the Most Excellent Global Region overall.
Global Region Nine shared the case of the Ulaanbaatar Branch in Mongolia, which has demonstrated the most outstanding growth recently. Ms. Misook Lim, the Director of Global Region 9, said, “I am happy that our past efforts have led to such meaningful results. We will continue to work harder to develop even further so that we can actively engage not only in Mongolia but all around the world.”
Daegu Metropolitan City Mayor Hong Joon-pyo further sent a congratulatory message, saying, “Since its establishment in 2013, the achievements of IWPG have become a milestone not only for the advancement of women’s rights but also for global peace and stability.
The group expressed hope that through women’s solidarity, all of humanity will move toward a peaceful world and that the influence of IWPG will continue to spread globally.”
IWPG Chairwoman Ms. Hyunsook Yoon said: “Last year, IWPG executed various projects with the Ministries of Gender of multiple countries and various NGOs and successfully launched peace education in Côte d’Ivoire. In Fiji and Mexico, IWPG Women’s Peace Education gained explosive popularity in the region through online platforms, and hundreds of people signed up for the education.”
She also added, “We are a group of responsible women who work to achieve peace that the world needs. This is not just rhetoric but something that we should practice. Let’s keep our hearts strong and shed the light of peace all around the world despite any obstacle, to achieve our goal, sustainable peace.”

IWPG is an international women’s NGO registered with UN ECOSOC and UN DGC. It has 114 branches in 123 countries and 808 partner organizations in 66 countries. Under the vision of “achieving sustainable world peace,” IWPG is actively working to build peace networks, spread peace culture, conduct women’s peace education, and support the legislation of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW).
