MONROVIA – A severe arson attack early Tuesday morning caused extensive damage to the Jeety Rubber LLC/SRC plantation, destroying over 150 rubber trees and resulting in an estimated loss of more than $35,000 USD. The incident occurred around 2:00 AM and has raised concerns about the safety and sustainability of operations at the plantation.
FrontPage Africa has gathered that two individuals, identified as Joe Bono and Abraham Kpannah, were apprehended by the plantation’s fire service team and are now in police custody. During preliminary questioning, the suspects reportedly confessed to carrying out the attack but have yet to disclose their motive.
The arson comes as a major blow to Jeety Rubber LLC, a business owned by prominent businessman Dr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva, known as Jeety, which had recently made significant improvements at the plantation. These included staff pay raises and ongoing construction of modern employee accommodations, showcasing the company’s commitment to worker welfare.
Eyewitnesses and local residents expressed fears about the economic impact of the attack. “This will cause severe economic challenges for the plantation,” one observer noted. “If the government does not intervene, it could lead to the company shutting down, leaving many workers without jobs.”
The plantation has been a vital source of employment in the area, and the attack threatens the livelihood of scores of workers who depend on its operations.
Local authorities have yet to comment on the incident, but the public is calling for swift justice and enhanced security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This is a developing story, and more details will follow as they become available.
