LTM Sets to Commence Traffic Management After Approval from President

Monrovia – FrontPageAfrica has learned that the Liberia Traffic Management Inc (LTM) is set to officially resume operations after years of dormancy. The move comes after President Joseph Boakai recently endorsed the Concession Agreement between the Government of Liberia and LTM, reaffirming the country’s commitment to the agreement despite previous disputes.

In a letter addressed to Minister of Transport, Sirleaf R. Tyler, President Boakai confirmed the validity of the agreement, instructing the Minister of Justice to ensure its immediate and full implementation.

The LTM Concession Agreement, which was ratified by the Liberian Senate and approved by the Legislature, grants LTM authority to manage key aspects of Liberia’s transportation infrastructure.

However, disagreements during the administration of former President George Weah led to a separate agreement with another entity, raising concerns that it conflicted with the terms of the LTM Concession.

In response to the situation, LTM took legal action, seeking judicial relief, claiming a breach of the Concession’s terms. Following this, the Minister of Justice issued a legal opinion confirming that the ratified LTM Concession Agreement holds greater legal weight and supersedes any conflicting agreements.

“The Act of ratification gives the Concession greater force of law,” President Boakai wrote in his letter. “LTM has withdrawn its case from the court, and I have directed the Minister of Justice to proceed with the implementation of the LTM Concession Agreement.”

This endorsement signals the government’s determination to stabilize and advance Liberia’s transport infrastructure under the terms initially agreed upon with LTM. The transport sector, which plays a vital role in the country’s economic growth, is expected to see improved infrastructure, job creation, and better mobility for citizens.

With the directive now in place, the Ministry of Justice is tasked with ensuring the full realization of the LTM Concession Agreement. This marks a pivotal moment in Liberia’s ongoing development and demonstrates the country’s commitment to honoring international agreements.

The successful implementation of this agreement is anticipated to be a cornerstone of the government’s long-term strategy to modernize Liberia’s transport systems and drive national development.
